Jan Tomlinson is a Surrey
based artist who has held exhibitions both locally and in Central
London.
Having studied in Japan
and the Middle East she has recently completed her BA (Hons) degree
in Contemporary Fine Art in the U.K. She has developed an interest
in the digital camera and the effects that can be achieved through
computer manipulation of photographic images.
Her social commentary
highlights issues of conflict within ourselves relating to social
concerns and institutional attitudes encountered in our personal
journey through everyday living. Often her work is set in the architectural
confines of the commercial or institutional buildings which are
used as a metaphor for the choices that we must make.
Included in her exhibitions
is the 'White Space Gallery' County
Hall, South Bank, London and The Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. Her work has been greatly influenced by
the theoretical texts on visual language by Roland Barthes. The
titles are taken from the poetry of Philip Larkin.
